Senior Development Engineer

Job Description

Function:
Coached by and reporting to the Development Manager, you will start in the Nashua development team as a Senior Development Engineer to assure development and standardisation of new products by bringing specific technical expertises such as video process algorithms, image and color processing algorithms, imaging system characterization, and color science to the development projects. You will join a team working on their fourth generation of automotive camera products to create products that enhance driver safety and comfort. An emerging market, camera products are quickly becoming a large part of how cars are driven as well as enabling active safety systems that save the lives of drivers, passengers and pedestrians. You will develop and maintain professional business partnerships with our internal and external customers that aim to define a product meeting the market requirement and resulting in a mutually profitable relationship.

Technical Competencies:
Specific area of expertise Optics/Image Processing: Having a deep knowledge of technologies relevant to image and video processing as well as measurement of image quality and up to date on the related new technology developments.
Characterization/Validation: Able to contribute to the characterization plan in order to validate/analyze development activities.
Project Management Techniques: Having thorough knowledge on Project Management Techniques.
Mathematical models: Able to generate mathematical models related to the specific expertise that provide insight in the system behavior.
Conceptual knowledge: Able to translate the customer needs into a system level solution.
Documentation: Deliver the appropriate documents to the customer and to the internal organization to keep tracking of the internal milestones, decisions of findings. Display a professional presentation skill.
Customer awareness: Dealing with complaints and clients in the right way, communicating decisions in a correct and assertive way, thinking and speaking empathetically with the client.

Job Requirements
Requirements: - Master degree w/ technical background with more than 10 years of related experience as technical expert.
- PhD is highly desired.
- Fluently in English is a must. Knowledge of any major European / Asian language is a strong asset.
- Working experience in integrating different cultural backgrounds.
- Working experience in International Industry.
- Working experience in the automotive Industry.
- Medium Travel Intensity.
- Sound Project Management skills (budget, planning, project team lead).
- Working experience with virtual teams.
- Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States without any time or employer-related restrictions.

New position: Sr. Materials and Optics Engineer in MA.

Job Title: Sr. Engineer Materials and Optics
Department: Photonics
Reports To: R&D Director

Definition:
Work within a small research team to investigate and characterize properties of novel semiconductor optical materials. You will be designing, implementing, and analyzing experiments aimed at understanding fundamental material and optical device properties with a focus on photodetection.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop optical and electronic apparatus for test and analysis of device performance and characterization. Hands-on use of a wide range of laboratory equipment including; high-power lasers, vacuum equipment, and semiconductor processing equipment. Must have the ability to use critical analysis techniques to identify important experimental trends and set direction for further investigation. Utilize knowledge of solid-state device physics to help guide the group’s research and product directions. Communicate design and process improvements to production group.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully you must have extensive knowledge in optical engineering and optical or photonic materials. Working knowledge of material science and semiconductor processing techniques. Must be comfortable working hands-on with a wide range of optical, electronic, and semiconductor processing equipment. Requires high degree of independent problem solving, strong communication, presentation and teamwork skills. Proficiency with optical design and semiconductor modeling software, such as Silvaco, is desired. Limited travel to vendors and customers required.

Education or Experience:
Advanced degree in EE, Physics, or Material Science required with over 3 years industry experience. Demonstrated experience working with emerging technologies is a must. Direct experience with photometric measurement systems and short-pulsed lasers (nanosecond to femtosecond) is preferred. Familiarity with analytic software such as Mathematica or Matlab is a plus.
